Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a term widely used today by many marketing their websites.  But most people don’t know what SEO really is.

You know that you need to be on the first page to really get any traffic and make any money online. Making it to the first page, more so to the top three is an indicator of a sites success in search engine optimization. You will get a higher probability of being clicked on when you rank high. You’ll get more traffic for your site. The more traffic you get, the more business you rake in.

So the million dollar question is, can your customers find you on the front page of Google? Yahoo? Or, Bing? What keywords would they use to find you? What other places can they find you besides the search engines?

When using search engines online, such as Google, BING or Yahoo, you may have noticed that out of the thousands or millions of websites that match your search results, some websites end up on the 1st page while many others end up buried deep on other pages, never to be found. Why? How do they do that? What features do they have that have impressed the search engines enough so they are displayed or ranked on a priority basis over all those other millions of websites?

It’s a simple concept but can get quite confusing.

Here is a brief overview of SEO and how it relates to getting your website ranked in the search engines.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization, is researching, understanding and then implementing specific steps to improve the chances of getting traffic from many places online, such as in the natural or organic search results of search engines, or from the many social media sites, social networking sites, articles sites, press release sites, video sites, and many others to increase the amount of traffic and the quality of traffic to your website or blog.

SEO is about having an optimized website, blog or landing page for both search engines and for people. Optimization specifically refers to choosing the right keywords, making pages relevant to those keywords, having high quality and authoritative links linking back to your site, preferably using anchored keywords so that the search engines can easily find and index your content, and having fresh content updated often by users, meaning things like people leaving blog comments on your site. The better you optimize your on-page and off-page SEO factors, the higher you’ll rank in the search engines. The higher your website appears or ranks in the search engines, the more visitors your website will receive.

But on-page seo and off-page seo are only a part of SEO. Search Engine Optimization really consists of 4 main areas:

When you pick the right keywords, create pages around those keywords drive traffic to that page by creating good content like articles, and videos, then track the results, tweak, make adjustments, drive more traffic, analyze the data, do some more tweaks… When you do that you are running on all cylinders and those are the real secrets to skyrocket your website rankings using SEO or search engine optimization.
